In brief
Pre-stretched film has already been elongated during manufacture or conversion. It generally needs less force from the operator to reach its intended application state.
That can be useful in some manual processes, but suitability still depends on the identified product, load, wrapping pattern and handling route. SupplyWrap availability is not implied by this guide.
What pre-stretched means in practice
Conventional hand film is stretched mainly as the operator applies it. Pre-stretched film arrives in an elongated state and is applied with less additional stretch. Roll weight, length, film feel and application technique may therefore differ from the current process.
Do not confuse pre-stretched hand film with the powered pre-stretch carriage on a pallet wrapper. They describe different parts of the process.
Situations worth evaluating
A trial may be relevant where operators struggle to apply consistent tension, where heavy conventional rolls are awkward, or where procurement wants to measure applied material rather than compare roll prices. It may also suit variable manual stations where a machine is not justified.
These are reasons to evaluate, not promises of lower use or better stability. The result depends on the film and the operation.
When another change may matter more
If the pallet build is weak, corners puncture the film, the load is unsuitable for manual wrapping or the process lacks a defined pattern, changing film format alone may not solve the problem. High or repeat volume may justify reviewing the complete wrapping method, including equipment and ergonomics.
Plan a representative trial
Compare the approved current method with the candidate film on normal and difficult loads. Record applied mass, wrap time, breaks, operator observations and condition after normal handling. Provide a simple instruction so the trial compares methods rather than individual improvisation.
Practical checklist
- Confirm that the candidate is intended for manual application
- Compare net film content, not gross roll weight alone
- Explain the application method before the trial
- Include ergonomic review under site procedures
- Do not infer SupplyWrap stock or sample availability
